Chief Development Officer and Vice President for Development
University of Calgary
Gary Durbeniuk is the Chief Development Officer and Vice President for Development at the University of Calgary. He is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a sustainable fundraising model and revenue generation plan that will facilitate this University's ability to achieve its Academic Plan.

Since returning to lead the Development Office at the University of Calgary in 2002, fundraising has grown from $16 Million per annum to a record $104 Million in 2008/09. As Vice President (Development) Gary was also the Executive Director of a joint campaign between the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, which raised $312 Million.

Gary began his career at the University of Calgary in 1986 as the Senior Development Officer responsible for the annual alumni fund, the annual parent campaign, the faculty associates programs, the development and implementation of the President's Circle, and finally, the major and leadership gift divisions of the University of Calgary's Building on the Vision $48 million campaign.

From 1992 to 1997 Gary was the Director of Development at the University of Calgary and the University's senior liaison for the Partners in Health $54 million joint campaign between the Foothills Hospital Foundation, Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine. During his term the University's endowment pool grew from $26 million in 1986 to $160 million in 1996.

In 1997 Mr. Durbeniuk became the first Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Health Trust, where he was responsible for merging the activities of five health care related foundations in Calgary into one foundation. He was responsible for establishing meaningful links with major individual, corporate and foundation prospects and over a four year period, reduced administrative costs by 50% while doubling fundraising results.

Mr. Durbeniuk attended the University of Calgary where he received a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education degree.

Mr. Durbeniuk is a member of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), The Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE), the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, National Council of Foundation Executives and Western Universities Advancement Council. His volunteer history spans some 30 years of service to various organizations and boards, including: The Rotary Club of Calgary, The University of Calgary Alumni Association, Camp Cadacasu, Calgary Booster Club, Calgary Zoo, Dinosaur Fifth Quarter Association, Easter Seal Superthon, Knights of Columbus, Westwood Hockey Association, the University of Calgary's United Way Campaign and the City of Calgary United Way Cabinet, and the American Friends of the University of Calgary.

He is married to Karen and they have three children (David, Christopher, Alexander). His personal interests include his family, sports, reading and hiking.
