Meg Beckel began her five-year appointment as President and CEO at the Canadian Museum of Nature in June 2011. Ms. Beckel is responsible for revisiting and overseeing the museum's strategic direction, increasing the museum's public value, nationally and internationally, and securing the long-term sustainability of the museum through fiscal effectiveness and robust revenue generation strategies.

Ms. Beckel began her professional career at the Bank of Nova Scotia where she served as Officer in Charge of Operations and as Assistant Manager, Corporate Banking before moving to the National Ballet of Canada in 1986, where she worked in development.

She held positions as the development director for the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre and as director of the Vancouver Symphony Society and Foundation before becoming the University of Calgary's manager of individual giving, where she worked for two years. That position led to her appointment as Executive Director, External Relations and President of the University of Victoria Foundation from 1995 to 1998.

In 1998 she joined the Royal Ontario Museum as President and Executive Director of the Royal Ontario Museum Foundation, and was appointed the museum's first Chief Operating Officer the following year. In this latter role she served as spokesperson for the ROM on all operational and board governance matters, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the museum including management of the capital and operating budgets.

In 2007 Ms. Beckel joined the University of Waterloo as Vice-President, External Relations where she was the senior university officer responsible for the Offices of Development and Alumni Affairs, Communication and Public Affairs and Government Relations. She was a member of the university's executive council and was responsible for the development and implementation of fundraising and external liaison strategies, as well as public relations and communications for the university.

Ms. Beckel completed her BA in political science at Queen's University in 1981 and earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in 1986.
